I Never Installed the Decline Program
I’m 51. My biological age is 10 years younger.
People assume it’s the bodybuilding background. And yes – that’s an advantage. I’ve been building and maintaining this body for decades.
But I know plenty of competitive athletes doing far worse in their 40s and 50s than people who never trained a day in their life.
So that’s not it.
Here’s what I’m fully convinced is the real reason.
I’ve never had an expectation to decline.
Not in my 40s. Not now at 51. And I’m confident my thinking in my 60s and 70s will be exactly the same.
When I train, I always strive to do more. To improve. To add more reps. My thinking has never been “how do I maintain what I have.” It’s always been “how do I improve on what I did last time.”
I never allowed a “decline” program to be installed in me.
Most people my age are declining because they expect to. They’ve normalized it. Accepted that that’s how it is.
And I understand that – we watched our parents and grandparents age. Of course we’re going to expect it. It’s been modeled to us for generations.
But here’s what I keep coming back to.
That program got installed without your knowledge or consent. You didn’t choose it. It was just… everywhere. The only model available.
Which means it’s not fixed. It’s not biology. It’s not inevitable.
My performance at 51 is proof of that.
But why does this matter more than ever right now?
Because the science on human longevity is already moving fast and accelerating even faster. Serious people are saying that living to 120 and beyond is not a fantasy anymore. It’s a realistic possibility within the next decade.
But it’s not enough to just survive to that moment. It’s critical to get there as healthy and fit as possible.
And in my experience – and conviction – it all starts with what you believe about what your body is capable of at 40, 50, and beyond.
Not what you intend to believe. What’s actually running in the background.
I went deep on this in my latest video – the first in a four-part series covering the four pillars I’ve been running on for decades. Mindset. Training. Nutrition. Supplements.
Watch it above.
