Everything and anything I can point to is a part of the dream.
Everything that can NOT be known is a part of the dream.
Everything you can “get” is a part of the dream
Everything I say here is a part of the dream.
What is “the dream”?
What you call your life.
Ok. But how can I glimpse beyond the dream?
Anything that takes your mind to its limits and beyond.
One of these many ways is “paradox”.
There are other ways, but paradox is, IMO, close to the top.
The mind wants to run from paradox. If it doesn’t, it dismisses it as an error in thinking.
But if you don’t let your mind run, eventually it will begin to soften its grip on your life.
Want to do a test?
Here’s a benign paradox:
Nothing can ever be known for sure. (How then can you know this for sure?)
Here’s a higher-order paradox – St Augustine’s Truth:
“From this truth, as I remember, that Truth cannot perish, we have concluded that not only if the whole world should perish, but even if Truth itself should, it will still be true that both the world and Truth have perished.
Take a pause. Recover a bit. And then…
Here’s another – a Zen saying:
“There is no path. But only a fool doesn’t walk it.”
Hm, interesting
And here’s an important one:
The Universe cannot point within itself because it contains itself.
Or
God gave birth to itself
Sitting with the last two will give you a lot!
So, back to what I was saying in the beginning…
Everything I (or anyone else) can say that “makes sense” is a part of the dream.
If I haven’t completely lost you by now..
What is a paradox you’ve sat with for a time without trying to escape the discomfort?
Much love.
