The Clock That Was Never Yours
There’s a clock running in your head that you didn’t install. It’s telling you that 50 is late, that whatever you haven’t accomplished by now, you probably won’t, that the window is closing.
That feeling is real.
But the clock it’s measuring against – that clock was never yours.
The cultural script that says your most generative years are 20-40… it was written for a world where 60 was old. Where the body gave out. Where longevity was not even a word we used.
That script made sense once. It no longer does.
But it’s still running in your nervous system, even though the world has changed.
Here’s the reframe that’s been helping me: “I’m starting at 60.”
At 51, I haven’t even started yet.
I’m still maturing, germinating. Preparing. Building skills, wisdom.
Here’w why:
With the exponential development of AI, longevity will be unlocked in 10 years or less. Meaning for every year we are alive, we’ll be able to extend life by more than one year.
As Peter Diamandis says, “Don’t die from anything stupid in the next 10 years.”
In this era, 60 is midlife.
If you are with me on this, all you have to do is:
- Keep maturing (by just doing what you’re doing and what excites you)
- Take care of your physical body – don’t die from anything stupid in the… (you know the drill)
So..
If you are in your 40s or 50s or even 60s…
You haven’t even started yet.
Enjoy the preparation.
(and stay healthy in the meantime)
